Beacon SiteMaker was created to provide a Web-enabled report-building tool for students to enhance units of instruction. Students are able to create multimedia reports on topics relating to major educational themes and topics. With teacher approval and parental permission, these reports can be published to the Web, thus expanding their audience beyond the traditional classroom. This provides students with a venue that henceforth has not been available and teachers with an assessment device for determining student understanding of the thematic content.
